We’re looking for a Full-time Network Engineer to join our Engineering team.  

Our Engineering team responds to the needs of the business, delivering well-designed and strategically aligned technology solutions in network architecture and design, customer acquisition, network service provider connectivity, and operations and support systems.

What you'd be doing:

  • The focus of this position will be on LAN, WAN, WLAN, SD-WAN, VxLAN, leaf-spine and data center technologies.
  • Design network virtualization, cloud computing, SDN/NFV, and overlay technologies.
  • Rack and stack equipment in data center in community or region (some travel required)
  • Create detailed bills of materials, and assist in sourcing materials
  • Install and configure network operating systems for SDN access
  • Build a virtualized edge infrastructure
  • Explore, investigate, test, and develop various SD-WAN methods, IoT, automation, internet network security, and other devices/products in residential, business, and enterprise customer settings. Ensure full stack integration is achievable and network design architectures support device/product needs including QoS and network traffic prioritization.
  • Design automation across Networks, AWS, SDWAN, utilizing (REST APIs, Ansible, Terraform, Python, 3rd party network automation tools. 
  • Assist with connection of network to NOC vendor
  • Deploy network monitoring software and enable monitoring of community networks
  • Ensure security and compliance for perimeter and internal services 
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues on our internal network 
  • Assist in evaluating vendors for network equipment, materials, and construction
  • Provide IT support on an ad hoc basis for our regional offices and employees

Experience we require:

  • At least 6 years experience in Network Engineering, preferably in the telecommunications industry
  • At least 2 years experience with Software Defined Networking and SD-WANs
  • 2+ years infrastructure as code experience utilizing Python, REST, YAML, API integration, Ansible and/or Terraform
  • Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP, VLAN/VXLAN, VRF, QoS, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP as well as MPLS connectivity/architecture.
  • Hands-on experience with fiber-optic network equipment, cabling, and connections in the Data Center as well in the Field. 
  • Extensive experience with Data Center designs and installation of Switches / Routers / Servers / Firewalls in the data center. 
  • Knowledge of virtualized implementation (SDN/NFV/CNF) network nodes under NFV, OpenStack, etc. Understanding of new virtualization techniques like containers, WebScale architecture, Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of network protocols and standards, especially ethernet routing, switching, bridging, VXLAN, EVPN, MPLS, QinQ, OpenFlow, and ONAP
  • Proficiency with Linux operating systems, and especially with Linux networking
  • Experience with at least one virtualization technology such as VMware
  • Familiarity with major municipal network architectures and standards such as GPON, Active Ethernet, DOCSIS, and HFC
  • Experience with shell scripting such as Bash, or  scripting languages such as Python, Javascript, etc.
  • Familiarity with IT compliance areas such as change management, incident response, and configuration management
  • Vendor management experience, including initial and annual diligence and contract negotiation
  • Familiarity with access control, centralized systems management, inventory management and directory management such as LDAP/ActiveDirectory and SSO
  • Familiarity with network and connectivity troubleshooting from both a user endpoint perspective as well as server and networking infrastructure perspective.
  • Cisco, Juniper, or similar network design, configuration, and/or operations certifications a big plus
