Underline was founded in 2019 with a singular mission: to ensure the vibrancy of our nation through building intelligent community infrastructure in a socially equitable manner. We work with American communities to design, finance, and construct open access fiber-optic networks. These networks are critical to secure internet access that’s fast, affordable, and fair. As open access networks, this infrastructure is also the essential foundation for distributed healthcare services, new wireless solutions, and resilient infrastructure including modernized water systems and responsible energy creation. Our first two projects are in Colorado Springs and Fountain, Colorado.

• Build GraphQL APIs to power user interfaces
• Design and model database schemas
• Work closely with Frontend Engineers to conceptualize and build new features in backend services
• Work closely with business and systems architecture colleagues to assess integration needs
• Evaluate and recommend integration partners
• Build connector or adapter components to external systems
• Manage API documentation for our APIs and integration components
• Maintain high standards of software development and quality through unit testing, integration testing, continuous integration, automated deployment, logging, and performance metrics
• Respond to the requirements of the business and the software architects in building efficiently-scoped and strategically-aligned software

• 4+ Years of experience as a software engineer
• Fluent with at least one backend language: Go, Ruby, Python,  and etc
• Proficiency with SQL-like databases such as Postgresql
• Hands-on experience working with REST APIs
• Familiarity with GraphQL APIs
• Proficiency with security standards such as OAuth2 and client certificates
• Experience with agile, test-driven development, continuous integration, and automated testing
• Strong understanding of web development protocols and security
• Familiarity with deployment tools like  Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS
• Travel to 4 quarterly off-site company retreats is required
• Experience developing or integrating billing systems is a nice to have
